Job Description

Position Overview:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily production activities, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality production processes. This role ensures that the production team meets operational goals, production schedules, and safety standards while maintaining product quality and meeting cost targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision of Production Staff:

  • Lead, manage, and supervise production teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring they are adequately trained and performing their tasks efficiently.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor team performance.
  • Address any team performance issues and escalate as necessary.

Production Planning and Scheduling:

  • Coordinate with production managers to develop and implement production schedules.
  • Ensure production targets and deadlines are met.
  • Adjust production schedules as needed to accommodate delays, equipment failure, or changes in demand.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Monitor production processes to ensure products meet the company’s quality standards.
  • Inspect finished goods and ensure proper documentation for quality control.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to resolve any quality issues.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all production activities comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote a safe working environment by ensuring proper safety training for employees.

Inventory and Materials Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure materials and supplies are available for production needs.
  • Work with the procurement and warehouse teams to ensure proper stock levels and timely delivery of materials.
  • Minimize production downtime by managing materials effectively.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure production equipment is properly maintained and functioning optimally.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to schedule repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and oversee equipment setup for production runs.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve production efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by involving team members in problem-solving and decision-making processes.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate production records, including production output, downtime, and quality metrics.
  • Prepare reports on production performance for upper management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations by maintaining necessary documentation.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Facilitate effective communication between shifts, departments, and management.
  • Provide timely updates on production status, challenges, and performance metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a production environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with production processes, equipment, and quality control standards.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production management software (ERP systems, etc.).
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing or factory environment, which may involve exposure to various environmental conditions.

Work Environment:

The role typically operates in a manufacturing or industrial setting. The supervisor may need to work in both office and production areas, depending on the needs of the shift.
