Job Description
Compensation: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour (based on years of experience) Summary: The Surgery Scheduler coordinates and facilitatesthe process of scheduling of hospital and ASC based procedures. This includes interaction with patients,physicians, referral providers and health plans.
Principal Responsibilities: 1. Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within.
2. Schedulessurgery procedures.
3. Preparespre-op surgery folder with all necessary patient paperwork.
4. Verifiesaccuracy of patient information.
5. Interfaceswith appropriate surgery center and hospital staff to ensure cohesive workingrelationship
6. Responds toinquiries from providers, patients and staff regarding surgeries and procedures.
7. Confirmspatient's insurance provider and either obtains prior authorization orcommunicates need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.
8. Completespre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients.
9. Contactspatients prior to scheduled surgeries:
a. Ensures allpre-operative tests have been completed and results are posted in patient chart.
b. Ensures allpre-operative instructions are clear and address or direct patient questions tothe appropriate person.
10. Retrievessurgical reports and dictation from hospital utilizing Epic system forphysician review and inclusion in patient's electronic medical record.
11. Reviewsdischarge instructions with patients and ensures proper follow-up appointmentsare scheduled at the time the procedure is scheduled.
12. Manages all doctors'schedules (block when provider is out, move patients who need to be moved, makessure that the template is followed, maintain waitlists)
13. Assists other members of the department asneeded.
Education/Licensure/Experience: 1. One (1) yearexperience in a medical office, dental office, or front desk position withscheduling experience and/or minimum of two (2) years' experience in dealingwith managed care protocols required.
2. One (1) ormore years of successful experience in surgery scheduling and/or pre-operative/post-operativeservices preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: 1. Excellentorganizational and prioritization skills.
2. Knowledge ofmedical terminology.
3. Knowledge ofreferral process and authorization process of all contracted insurance plansand maintain working knowledge of Oregon Health Plan and Medicare.
4. Computerinput skills and word-processing skills.
5. Ability toassess and evaluate medical information.
6. Knowledge ofmanaged care benefits.
7. Excellentverbal and written communication skills.
8. Knowledge ofprovider contracts.
9. Ability towork compatibly with the public and other staff members.
