Project Organizer
Starbucks Campaign

Based in Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana

The Starbucks Workers United Campaign of Workers United is looking for you to join our team! This is an external organizing position in one of the most critical service industry campaigns in our lifetime. SBWU staff organizers work partly in-person and partly remotely from their home base with a team of organizers from across the country. The majority of time in this role is spent working directly with workers to organize their shops.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Building relationships with workers. Able to identify, recruit, and effectively assess and develop leaders
  • Build and maintain worker committees;
  • Lead 1-on-1 and group organizing conversations. Organize and lead worker committee meetings;
  • Educate workers on the benefits of unionization and train workers in skills needed to win campaigns.
  • Lead workers through successful union elections and a first-contract campaign.
  • Help to organize and run large actions such as picket lines and rallies;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a very high-paced environment with flexibility and ease;
  • Coordinate with city, state, local, and national working groups and a capacity to work within many kinds of professional environments;
  • Prioritize, organize, and coordinate multiple tasks under changing deadlines;
  • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining databases and filing expense reports

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of organizing experience, particularly in building worker power within a diverse group;
  • Basic knowledge of union organizing practices and principles;
  • Lives in Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana, and has a valid driver’s license and a car to travel to shops;
  • Dedication to the labor movement;
  • Ability to plan, execute, and promote actions and events;
  • Excellent communication skills. Responsive and prompt;
  • Willing and able to travel and work long and irregular work hours, including nights and weekends

TIME COMMITMENT AND SALARY:
This position is a part-time, 6 month position working an average of 20 hours per week at a wage of $21/hr. Hours may include night and weekend events. The organizer will be reimbursed for any travel or miscellaneous expenses incurred while working.
