Job Title: Private Equity Associate – Energy (Oil & Gas)

Location: Houston, TX

About the Firm: A leading private equity investment firm specialising across the upstream, midstream, and oilfield services space.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Pre-MBA Private Equity Associate to join an Oil & Gas investment team in Houston, TX. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on deal execution, portfolio management, and investment strategy in the oil and gas sector, with a primary focus on upstream, midstream, and oilfield services.

The ideal candidate will have 1.5 to 3 years of investment banking experience in energy-focused M&A, leveraged finance, or capital markets, with strong financial modeling skills and a deep understanding of the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities: Investment Analysis & Diligence: Conduct due diligence, market research, and competitive analysis for potential investments in upstream, midstream, and oilfield services. Financial Modeling & Valuation: Build and maintain detailed financial models, including DCF, LBO, and comparable company analysis.

Deal Execution: Support all aspects of deal execution, including structuring, negotiations, and financing considerations. Portfolio Management: Work closely with portfolio companies, providing strategic and operational insights to enhance value creation. Industry Research & Market Monitoring: Track trends in oil and gas markets, regulatory developments, and macroeconomic factors affecting investment decisions.

Qualifications: 1.5 to 3 years of investment banking experience at a top-tier firm, with a focus on upstream, midstream, and/or oilfield services. Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills. Experience working on M&A, capital markets transactions, or leveraged finance deals in the energy sector. Solid understanding of oil and gas market dynamics, including commodity pricing, regulatory environment, and asset valuation. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management, investors, and portfolio company executives. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working directly with private equity firms or financial sponsors on transactions. Understanding of private equity investment structures, including LBOs and structured equity. Exposure to financial and operational performance improvement initiatives in energy companies.
