Nutritionist Job Description

Midwestern Pet Foods seeks a Nutritionist to join our growing team. This individual will play a critical role in fulfilling our mission of producing results driven, high quality pet food that our consumers love and trust.

Responsibilities: ​

• Help us continue our long history of providing safe, healthy, delicious food for pets.
• Formulate AAFCO/States compliant high quality, nutritious recipes.
• Ensure company standards and product requirements are met in each of our recipes.
• Maintain company knowledge of technical and scientific developments.
• Ensure required documentation and records are maintained to substantiate product label compliance standards, feeding guidelines, statements of nutritional adequacy, and advertising and promotional claims.
• Coordinate with Purchasing and Quality Assurance Teams to ensure ingredients meet the necessary nutritional requirements.
• Assist Consumer Service Team in providing qualified, professional responses to consumer feedback.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales to provide nutritional knowledge to increase sales.
• Approx. 10% travel required.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Animal Nutrition (Companion Animal Nutrition preferred).
• Extensive knowledge of dog and cat nutrition and related sciences.
• Experience in pet food recipe creation (dry, wet, treats and canned).
• Working knowledge of dry food manufacturing processes and operations.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Primarily self-managed, self-motivated team player.
