Lead Pastor Role
I. In helping to equip us to be a “loving community” our pastor will be able to:
• meet people “where they are at” by being an empathetic listener and communicator
• provide pastoral care to the church family with compassion, lead and support church staff members, and work collaboratively with elders, deacons and pastoral care teams
• cultivate our desire to love others as Christ loves us, even when it is difficult
II. In helping to equip us to be “led by the Holy Spirit”, our pastor will be able to:
• demonstrate an openness and commitment to the Spirit’s leading and model this for Water Street Church
• work collaboratively with other people and leadership teams at Water Street
Church, including the Faith Formation Pastor and worship committee, submitting together to the leading of God’s Spirit
• continue to develop our ability to discern the Holy Spirit’s leading
III. In helping to equip us to “know God”, our pastor will be able to:
• see the majesty of God revealed in scripture and creation
• provide clear, practical and authentic Bible teaching that challenges people to know, love and obey God
• encourage the congregation to dive deeper into God’s Word and help relate their faith to their daily lives
IV. In helping to equip us to “follow Jesus”, our pastor will be able to:
• live as an example of someone who “knows” and follows Jesus, a person of prayer and a model of humility, dependence, and abiding in Christ
• encourage the development of leadership at Water Street Church
• help us to discern and apply the gifts God has given us to function as members of the Body of Christ
V. In helping to equip us to “serve our world”, our pastor will be able to:
• be an active supporter of outreach functions in the local community, the region and the world for the building up of Christ’s kingdom
• provide counsel and support to the local Ministerial Association and foster strong connections with local leaders of the churches in the City of Guelph
• encourage and develop our gifts and talents to serve the communities into which God has called Water Street Church.
Professional
At Water Street Church our pastor will:
• be accountable to council (elders and deacons of Water Street Church)
• take adequate time in the week to study scripture and relevant literature to keep informed and updated on matters relating to ministry
• belong to a small accountability / support group
• be encouraged towards Classis involvement
• continue with education opportunities
• help establish a sabbatical policy
• listen and respond to honest and heartfelt feedback
