Position Summary:
The Campus Galleries Graduate Assistant will support and collaborate with the Director of Campus Galleries to maintain and provide daily operational support to the three art gallery spaces on campus.
An ideal candidate will have the ability to manage and prioritize daily administrative & project support needs in an effort to achieve future goals of all campus art galleries.
The Gallery Graduate Assistant will gain knowledge & experience in all areas of gallery operations, including but not limited to: marketing & communications, logistics & scheduling, gallery maintenance, art handling, team leadership & oversight, project management and event planning.
The selected candidate will assist with all of the following on a regular basis 20 hours or less a week (excluding academic breaks):
1. Mentor and supervise a team of six Gallery Assistants (undergraduate student workers serving as docents). Monitoring schedule and task communication among the team.
2. Lead Marketing & Communication efforts to advertise events & exhibitions utilizing digital, print, and radio distribution methods.
3. Develop & implement templates and timelines for daily management of galleries and exhibitions/events as well as annual tasks and procedures.
4. Manage gallery website, Hub page, and social media accounts such as Facebook & Instagram.
5. Preparator duties include art fragile/precious object handling in the form of (un)packing, storage, shipping, (de)installation, etc.
6. Assist with clerical and administrative duties such as contract collection, scanning, and digital file organization.
7. Maintain college art collection inventory, organization, and acquisition.
8. Research and collaborate with campus archivists and librarians to fulfill curatorial needs as well as grant applications and reporting requirements.
9. Project management & support of gallery events including but not limited to planning event details, arranging food service & catering, set up & tear down, etc.
10. Maintain physical space(s) and facilitate wall repair/maintenance between shows such as painting & patching.
11. Participate in the call for art, exhibition proposal, and jury selection process for next season.
12.Support Director & all aspects of the Galleries Strategic Plan

* Current or accepted graduate student at North Central College
* Effective verbal and written communication skills (interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills)
* Demonstrated problem-solving & critical thinking skills
* Ability to work with a team as well as independently
* Willingness to learn and be responsive to feedback
* An interest in art and art history, business management, event planning & hosting, marketing & communications, and/or gallery preparations, installation, and art handling.
* Occasional evening and weekend hours for artist reception and community events.
* Abide by the college code of conduct and expectations as outlined in the Student Handbook
* Other duties as assigned
Experience with any or all of the following are desired:
* Microsoft 365 software suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Planner, etc.)
* Canva (or equivalent) image & document creation software
* Art or fragile/precious object handling: packing, storage, shipping, installation, etc.
* Website and/or social media management
